The 463 foot long, 41 foot wide mall at the El Con Shopping Center will be open to the public Thursday (August 22nd 1961) when seven additional stores formally open in the center. Work in the center of the mall is preliminary to the erection of fountains and planters. The mall presently is open at either end but eventually be closed and air conditioned. Meanwhile, it has indirect air conditioning, with cooled air released through entrances to stores on either side. Opening Thursday are Woolworths, Kresge, El Rancho Market, Lerners, House of Fabricc, GallenKamp Shoes and Kinney Shoes.
